Further Mathematics in Dubai: what usually goes wrong
Dubai's schools sit at the sharp end of a problem their curricula were never designed for: classes are often taught by teachers whose specialism is something adjacent, in schools expanding faster than they can hire. Strong students coast through Year 10 on general ability and then meet an exam that asks for something specific (a precise definition, an argued judgement, an algorithm written cold on paper) and discover that ability was never the thing being tested.
The pattern repeats across schools, and it is rarely about ability. It is about the gap between understanding a topic and being able to perform it under the exact conditions the paper imposes. In Further Mathematics specifically, these are where the marks go:
- Timetabling: it is often taught in compressed sessions or partly self-taught, so gaps open quietly
- Complex numbers and matrices introduced abstractly, with no sense of what they are for
- Trying to keep pace with Further content while single Maths is still shaky underneath
- Differential equations reduced to a set of recipes rather than a method of modelling

How lessons run
One-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard so tutor and student work on the same page at the same time. Sixty minutes is the default; twice weekly in the eight weeks before a paper.
Every session starts with marked work from the previous week, moves to the day's topic with a worked example, and ends with the student attempting a real past paper question live. Do universities require Further Maths?
A small number of competitive mathematics and engineering courses ask for it, and many more treat it as a strong positive signal. Requirements vary by course and change, so check the specific universities on your child's list rather than assuming.
Can it be taken if single Maths is shaky?
It is a bad idea. Further Maths assumes single Maths is fluent, and trying to carry both when the foundation is unstable usually pulls down the grade that actually matters. Making single Maths excellent is the better use of the same hours.
Which optional modules will my child sit?
That depends entirely on the school, Further Mechanics and Further Statistics need completely different preparation. Establishing which options a student is entered for is the first thing to confirm, because revising the wrong one is a costly mistake.
What time do lessons run for students in Dubai?
Weekday evenings between roughly 4pm and 9pm Gulf Standard Time, which fits around a school day that usually ends between 2pm and 3:30pm. Weekend morning slots open up in the months before the May/June series.
Do you follow the same curriculum as my child's school in Dubai?
We teach to the syllabus your child is actually entered for, which is not always the one the school's website describes. The first thing we establish is the exact code, because Cambridge revises these specifications on a three-year cycle and the paper structure has genuinely changed.

We are an online practice and do not hold a UAE tutoring permit or an education licence, and we do not claim to. The UAE's private tuition permit framework applies to individuals tutoring within the UAE, and we would rather state our position plainly than be vague about it. Can you help during the school year or only before exams?
Both, and year-round support generally produces better outcomes than a panic block in April. That said, a lot of families arrive after a disappointing mock, and there is real work that can be done in eight weeks if it is focused on the right things.
