The most effective preparation starts from a full official practice test, identifies the recurring error types, and drills those specifically. Score gains come far more from eliminating repeated mistakes than from learning new content.

What University actually demands

First-year modules move at several times school pace and assume prerequisites that are often shakier than students realise. Support here is usually about closing a specific gap quickly rather than working through a syllabus.

A digital, adaptive admissions test covering Reading and Writing and Mathematics. Because it is adaptive, pacing and accuracy in the first module matter more than they did on the old paper test.

Where University SAT students lose marks

  • Preparing with outdated paper-format materials rather than the current digital adaptive test
  • Maths errors that are arithmetic and pacing rather than content: the topics are usually already known
  • Reading questions answered from impression rather than from the specific lines the question points to
  • No timing strategy, so the last questions of a module are rushed regardless of difficulty

Is this the right subject at this level?

Students applying to universities in the United States and to some international programmes elsewhere. It suits anyone prepared to work from a real diagnostic rather than a general sense of weakness, because the score gains come almost entirely from eliminating specific repeated error types.

What it costs

USD 25-35 per 60-minute one-to-one lesson at University, the same rate in every city we teach in. Billed monthly against lessons actually taught, with no prepaid blocks and no minimum commitment.

Paired lessons (2 students) are USD 18-25 per student. Small group lessons (up to 6 students) are USD 13-18 per student. What each format is good for is here.

How we teach it

One-to-one, online, with a shared whiteboard. The first thing we establish is the exact syllabus the student is entered for: schools do not always publish the version they actually enter, and preparing for the wrong paper structure wastes a term.

After that the work is diagnostic: a past paper under timed conditions, marked together against the published scheme, to find out where the marks are genuinely going. That is almost always more useful than covering the syllabus again more slowly. The full process is here.

SAT: questions parents ask

Is the SAT still a paper test?

No, it is digital and adaptive, which changes preparation significantly. Performance in the first module determines the difficulty of the second, so accuracy and pacing early in each section matter more than they did on the old paper format.

How much can a score realistically improve?

That depends on the starting point and the time available, and anyone promising a specific number before seeing a diagnostic is guessing. Most gains come from eliminating recurring error types rather than from learning new content.

When should preparation start?

Early enough to allow two or three sittings without clashing with school exams. Starting in the term before the first attempt is comfortable; starting a month before is not.
