Mathematics tutors in Jeddah

The subject where gaps compound. Every topic rests on an earlier one, so a weakness in algebra from Year 9 quietly becomes a weakness in calculus in Year 12, and the student experiences it as "I am bad at maths" rather than "I missed one thing."

Mathematics in Jeddah: what usually goes wrong

Jeddah has an older and more settled international school sector than Riyadh, which changes the nature of the problem rather than removing it. Schools here are less likely to be understaffed and more likely to be large, and in a large cohort a student who is quietly a grade below target is easy to miss until the mocks. The Sunday-to-Thursday week applies here too and needs building into any lesson schedule.

The pattern repeats across schools, and it is rarely about ability. It is about the gap between understanding a topic and being able to perform it under the exact conditions the paper imposes. In Mathematics specifically, these are where the marks go:

  • Method marks lost because working is not written down: the answer is right and the marks are not there
  • Algebraic fluency that was never automatic, so every question costs twice the time it should
  • Reading a question, recognising the topic, but not knowing which of three methods the examiner wants
  • Running out of time on the last two questions, which is usually a speed problem from earlier in the paper

Every one of those is trainable. None of them is fixed by covering the syllabus again more slowly, which is what most extra help amounts to.

Who this suits

Every student takes it, which is exactly why generic help does so little. What works is diagnosing the specific broken link in the chain rather than re-teaching the current topic more slowly.

Which level is your child at?

Each level asks for something different, and preparation that ignores that difference wastes time. These pages set out what changes at each stage:

How lessons run

One-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard so tutor and student work on the same page at the same time. Sixty minutes is the default; twice weekly in the eight weeks before a paper.

Every session starts with marked work from the previous week, moves to the day's topic with a worked example, and ends with the student attempting a real past paper question live. After it, you get a written note from the tutor saying what was covered and what needs to happen next. The full process is here.

What it costs

USD 20-40 per 60-minute lesson, depending on level: the same rate wherever the student is, because the lesson is the same. Billed monthly against lessons actually taught, with no prepaid blocks and no minimum commitment. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.

Mathematics tutoring in Jeddah: common questions

My child understands maths in class but freezes in exams. Why?

Usually because understanding and fluency are different things. Following a worked example needs recognition; an exam needs recall and speed under pressure with no prompt. The fix is timed practice on mixed topics rather than more explanation: a student who can only start a question when told which topic it is has a retrieval problem, not a comprehension one.

How far back do gaps usually go?

Further than most people expect. A student struggling with A Level calculus very often has an algebra weakness from Year 9 that was never closed, and every topic since has been built on it. Diagnosing that honestly takes one session and saves a term of treating the wrong problem.

Is Additional Maths worth taking alongside IGCSE?

If your child is comfortably strong at IGCSE and heading for A Level Maths, physics or engineering, yes, it covers the first term of AS a year early. If IGCSE Maths is already a struggle, it will make things worse rather than better.

My child is in a large cohort and seems to be slipping quietly. Is that common?

Very. Jeddah's international schools are well established and often large, and in a big cohort a student who is a grade below target is genuinely easy to miss until the mocks. That is usually what brings families to us, and the first useful step is a marked past paper rather than more revision.

What time do lessons run?

Evenings in Arabia Standard Time, UTC+3, Sunday to Thursday, with weekend mornings on Friday and Saturday available before exam series.

Do you help with coursework deadlines as well as exams?

Yes, and they are frequently the more urgent problem. IB Internal Assessments and A Level coursework carry a substantial share of the grade and run on deadlines that arrive well before the written papers, which is exactly why they get deprioritised.
