English Language in Abu Dhabi: what usually goes wrong
Abu Dhabi families often have a structural disadvantage that has nothing to do with the schools: the city is spread out, after-school traffic is real, and a tutor who would take ninety minutes to reach is not a weekly commitment anybody keeps. How lessons run
One-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard so tutor and student work on the same page at the same time. Sixty minutes is the default; twice weekly in the eight weeks before a paper.
Every session starts with marked work from the previous week, moves to the day's topic with a worked example, and ends with the student attempting a real past paper question live. My child reads constantly but the English grade is average. Why?

What is the difference between First Language and Second Language English?
They are separate syllabuses with different papers and different expectations. Students are sometimes entered for the one that suits them least, so confirming which one your child is actually sitting is worth doing before any preparation starts.
How do you fix analysis that just names techniques?
By always adding the effect. Identifying a metaphor earns almost nothing; explaining what that specific word choice does to the reader is the whole mark. It is a quick habit to build once a student sees it in a mark scheme.
What time do lessons run for students in Abu Dhabi?
Weekday evenings between roughly 4pm and 9pm Gulf Standard Time, which fits around a school day that usually ends between 2pm and 3:30pm. Because the city is spread out, online removes the travel that makes an in-person weekly slot so hard to keep.
Do you cover the IB Diploma as well as A Level?
Yes, and Abu Dhabi has a substantial IB sector. The Diploma needs a different kind of support from A Level: Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay are deadline-driven coursework worth a large share of the grade, and they are what most often slips.
