Computer Science tutors in Dubai

The programming-and-theory route: how machines represent and move data, plus writing and tracing algorithms by hand and at a keyboard. The exam tests a narrower, more precise skill than the one most keen programmers have been practising.

Computer Science in Dubai: what usually goes wrong

Dubai's schools sit at the sharp end of a problem their curricula were never designed for: classes are often taught by teachers whose specialism is something adjacent, in schools expanding faster than they can hire. Strong students coast through Year 10 on general ability and then meet an exam that asks for something specific (a precise definition, an argued judgement, an algorithm written cold on paper) and discover that ability was never the thing being tested.

The pattern repeats across schools, and it is rarely about ability. It is about the gap between understanding a topic and being able to perform it under the exact conditions the paper imposes. In Computer Science specifically, these are where the marks go:

  • Writing code that works but cannot be explained in the terms the mark scheme wants
  • Tracing an algorithm on paper under time pressure without a computer to check it
  • Losing marks on binary, hexadecimal and two's complement arithmetic that was never properly drilled
  • Treating the theory paper as memorisation when it tests applied understanding

Every one of those is trainable. None of them is fixed by covering the syllabus again more slowly, which is what most extra help amounts to.

Who this suits

Students who want to build things and are comfortable with the logic and maths underneath. It is the stronger choice for engineering, computer science or any degree with a quantitative core.

Which level is your child at?

Each level asks for something different, and preparation that ignores that difference wastes time. These pages set out what changes at each stage:

How lessons run

One-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard so tutor and student work on the same page at the same time. Sixty minutes is the default; twice weekly in the eight weeks before a paper.

Every session starts with marked work from the previous week, moves to the day's topic with a worked example, and ends with the student attempting a real past paper question live. After it, you get a written note from the tutor saying what was covered and what needs to happen next. The full process is here.

What it costs

USD 20-40 per 60-minute lesson, depending on level: the same rate wherever the student is, because the lesson is the same. Billed monthly against lessons actually taught, with no prepaid blocks and no minimum commitment. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.

Computer Science tutoring in Dubai: common questions

Which Computer Science syllabuses do you cover for Dubai students?

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 and its 9-1 variant 0984, and Cambridge International AS & A Level Computer Science 9618. We teach to the current published specification for each, including the changes in the most recent revision cycle.

What does a typical lesson look like?

Marked work from last week first, then the day's topic taught with a worked example, then the student attempting a past paper question live while the tutor watches how they approach it rather than just what they produce. The last five minutes are spent setting specific work for the week.

How many lessons will my child need?

It depends entirely on the gap and the timeline, and anyone who gives you a number before speaking to you is guessing. A student who is a grade off target with two terms to go is a very different problem from one sitting a paper in six weeks. We will give you an honest estimate once we have seen some marked work.

Can you help with the A Level Paper 4 practical?

Yes, and it is one of the places where targeted help pays off most. Paper 4 requires complete program code plus structured evidence of testing, submitted in Java, Visual Basic (.NET) or Python console mode. Students who can program often lose marks purely on the evidence requirements.

My child is good at coding but their grade is poor. Why?

Because the exam does not test coding the way they practise it. It asks for algorithms written by hand in pseudocode, traced through a table, and explained in the vocabulary of the mark scheme. A student who builds things all weekend can still lose half the programming paper.

Computer Science or ICT, which should we choose?

Computer Science if the student is comfortable with abstraction and wants a technical degree route; ICT if they prefer applied, precision-driven work assessed largely at a computer. Neither is the easy option: they are difficult in different directions.

Which programming language will be taught?

Usually Python, because it is what most schools use and it maps cleanly onto exam pseudocode. For A Level practical papers we work in whichever language the student will actually sit the paper in.

What time do lessons run for students in Dubai?

Weekday evenings between roughly 4pm and 9pm Gulf Standard Time, which fits around a school day that usually ends between 2pm and 3:30pm. Weekend morning slots open up in the months before the May/June series.
