History tutors in Dubai
Not a memory subject. The marks are for argument supported by precise evidence and for handling sources critically: students who know the narrative thoroughly and cannot argue from it routinely underperform.

History in Dubai: what usually goes wrong
Dubai's schools sit at the sharp end of a problem their curricula were never designed for: classes are often taught by teachers whose specialism is something adjacent, in schools expanding faster than they can hire. Strong students coast through Year 10 on general ability and then meet an exam that asks for something specific (a precise definition, an argued judgement, an algorithm written cold on paper) and discover that ability was never the thing being tested.
The pattern repeats across schools, and it is rarely about ability. It is about the gap between understanding a topic and being able to perform it under the exact conditions the paper imposes. In History specifically, these are where the marks go:
- Narrating what happened instead of arguing why the question's claim does or does not hold
- Source questions answered by summarising the source rather than assessing its provenance and utility
- Evidence used generally where dates, names and figures are what earn the marks
- No sustained line of argument, so paragraphs read as a list rather than as a case
Every one of those is trainable. None of them is fixed by covering the syllabus again more slowly, which is what most extra help amounts to.
Who this suits
Students heading for history, law, politics or international relations, and anyone whose essays narrate events well but do not answer the question that was set.
Which level is your child at?
Each level asks for something different, and preparation that ignores that difference wastes time. These pages set out what changes at each stage:
- IGCSE History · Years 10-11
- A Level History · Years 12-13
- IB History · Years 12-13
- University History · Undergraduate
How lessons run
One-to-one, over video, with a shared whiteboard so tutor and student work on the same page at the same time. Sixty minutes is the default; twice weekly in the eight weeks before a paper.
Every session starts with marked work from the previous week, moves to the day's topic with a worked example, and ends with the student attempting a real past paper question live. After it, you get a written note from the tutor saying what was covered and what needs to happen next. The full process is here.
What it costs
USD 20-40 per 60-minute lesson, depending on level: the same rate wherever the student is, because the lesson is the same. Billed monthly against lessons actually taught, with no prepaid blocks and no minimum commitment. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.
History tutoring in Dubai: common questions
My child knows the history thoroughly but gets B grades. Why?
Because History does not reward knowing what happened. It rewards arguing a case about why a claim holds or does not, supported by precise evidence. A narrative answer, however complete, is answering a question that was not asked.
How are source questions marked?
On provenance and utility, not content. Summarising what a source says earns little; assessing who produced it, when, why, and what that means for its reliability and usefulness is where the marks sit. This is highly trainable and often the fastest route to a grade.
What is historiography and does it matter?
It is engagement with how other historians have interpreted the period, and at A Level and IB it is what separates the top band. Referencing named interpretations and weighing them is expected rather than optional.
What time do lessons run for students in Dubai?
Weekday evenings between roughly 4pm and 9pm Gulf Standard Time, which fits around a school day that usually ends between 2pm and 3:30pm. Weekend morning slots open up in the months before the May/June series.
Do you follow the same curriculum as my child's school in Dubai?
We teach to the syllabus your child is actually entered for, which is not always the one the school's website describes. The first thing we establish is the exact code, because Cambridge revises these specifications on a three-year cycle and the paper structure has genuinely changed.
Are you licensed to tutor in Dubai?
We are an online practice and do not hold a UAE tutoring permit or an education licence, and we do not claim to. The UAE's private tuition permit framework applies to individuals tutoring within the UAE, and we would rather state our position plainly than be vague about it. If regulatory status matters to you, that is a fair question to raise when you get in touch.
Can you help during the school year or only before exams?
Both, and year-round support generally produces better outcomes than a panic block in April. That said, a lot of families arrive after a disappointing mock, and there is real work that can be done in eight weeks if it is focused on the right things.
